Ride Report for Ride Captain George (Navy Chief)

Warriors Watch and A Hero’s Welcome had the pleasure of welcoming home SGT. Eric Berg from his second tour and final tour of Afghanistan.  SGT. Berg enlisted in the Army in 2006 as a Combat Engineer. Erik was deployed to Afghanistan in December 2008, and served one year there, continuing his work as a Combat Engineer doing route clearance and detonating IEDs.  He deployed for a second tour in March 2011, returning in March 2012, still working as a Combat Engineer, this tour doing air assaults, along with infrastructure rebuilding.  Eric married his wife Amanda right before his second deployment and they are both looking forward starting their life together.
With perfect timing the group doing the welcome home for SGT. Cabassa arrived at the rally point just before the arrival of our Hero.
We held our usual Mug and Hug at the rally point and SGT. Berg was presented with a flag that few over our capital by State Representative Marguerite Quinn.  We then mounted up with at least 8 bikes flying big flags, 30 other bikes and a few cages we had the 1.5 mile trip to the Berg’s house.  It was great to see the yellow ribbons and people with signs out in the street for the short trip.
Once we arrived at the house there were plenty of family and friends ready to surround and welcome home SGT. Berg , We had the pleasure of coining our hero, along with AHW presenting him with his certificate, of course we had to get our pictures with the good SGT. Before we left we found a Vietnam Veteran who of course we had to coin and welcome home, I can truly say I saw tears in his eyes as we lined up to thank him for his service.
I would like to thank everybody who came out today to welcome home SGT. Berg, to those who made the mission for SGT. Cabassa and then rushed down to join us for this mission All I can say is thank you.  To the Berg family thank you ever so much for allowing all of us to be a small part in the welcoming home of this hero.

Ride Report for Ride Captain Dirty Dog

On Saturday March 17th, Warriors Watch Riders gathered at the shopping center at Routes 248 and 33 to give Army SPC Dallas (Dal) Wadle a welcome home he’ll never forget.  Dal’s family had contacted Warriors’ Watch Riders and we took it from there.

We waited hidden from his view in an obsured section of the parking lot while Dal finished dinner.  When we got the text from Dal’s mother Lori, we were ready for him!  His friend drove him through our flag line; his look of surprise when he got out of the car was priceless!  I told Dal that it wasn’t over yet – all of his new friends were going to escort him home and make some noise so that his whole neighborhood would know that a hero had arrived.

We mounted up, lined up, and were off!  The Colonial Regional Police Department got us safely onto Route 248 and then onto Route 33.  Lehigh Township Fire Police volunteer (and WWR member) Bob Wrenn had lights and sirens going as he led us to Dal’s home.  Getting off of Route 33 we were treated to an awesome display of patriotism as we drove under a huge flag suspended over the road by fire trucks.  Special thanks to Palmer Township and Bethlehem Township Fire Companies for being there and joining in our procession!  It was heartwarming to see all of the people that lined the street by the firetrucks waving to our hero.

At home Dal was coined, given the certificate from A Hero’s Welcome, a congressional certificate of appreciation, and a flag that had been flown over our nation’s capital.  Welcome home, Dal!  It was an honor to shake your hand, and we thank your family for inviting us to be a part of this special day.

This Mission is the Arrival of our Fallen Hero back Home to California and back to Danville
Chachi’s Hometown. This is the 4th Mission of 7 , that we did for the Corral Family. I wish
I could write 1 report for this , but , it was 7 missions in 5 days. This Mission began early
in the morning. Since I signed the chapter here in Northern California , we have had several
KIA’s that the WWR has Escorted. But , This was the most highly profiled for us. Danville
being a small town USA kinda place , and this being Danville’s 1st loss. The plan was for
us to go up to the house and pick up the family in a Limo. But , at staging , there were over
60+ Bikes and at least 12 cages. The corral family lived in a area,were I could not bring all
the bikes & Cages.So, I had to make a quick decision on what to do differant. Concord ,
a city right next door , the Police chief sent 3 Motors to staging. Danville sent 2. So , I asked
the 3 Concord Motors to go with me up to the house and pick-up the family and bring them
down to staging. While I was gone Scott ( Sgt. Antioch PD & President Los Carnales MC),
a very good friend and son of friertuck staged all the bikes & Cages. It was a very foggy
morning , When I got up to the house , I saw the Limo for the 1st. Time, a 25 Passenger
Cadillac SUV.I went inside the house, everybody was getting ready to go. We rolled to
the staging area , positioned the Limo up front. As we got onto the onramp to the Freeway,
The entire Freeway( 5 lanes) were completely shut down. With PD leading , we made our
way to Travis Airforce Base. At the front gate of the Base Raider was waiting with another
25-30 Bikes and 5 cages. Security Forces from Travis escorted us to the Ramp Area where
Chachi’s Charter Aircraft was going to land. Withe the help of Security Forces we lined up
all the Bikes and cages ahead of time. We then got news of a delay, about 1 Hour or so.
The Base commander brought busses over to us , and brought the riders over to the galley
for lunch. I stayed behind to chat with Arnie ( Chachi’s dad). We prayed together with his
friends and then had a chance to chat. After all the riders came back , The CHP ( california
highway patrol) wanted to go over the route with me, I asked him to address the entire
group, which he did. CHP sent 10 Motors & 4 cruisers. Then we got the word , that the
aircraft was 15 minutes out. We got the flag line set, and stood by. We watched as the Lear
Jet landed and taxi’d over to us. When the door opened , we stood silent. The Base closed
the flightline down as well as Flight Traffic. The corral Family approched the Aircraft where
their Hero was stationed. They had their pastor ,as well as the Base Chaplain there to recieve
him Home.Then the Marine Honor Detail carried Chachi to his coach. Chachi’s best friend
Brock was on that Detail. We then Dismissed the Flag Line and mounted up. Now, we were
ready to Head home. Travis AFB Security Forces Escorted us thru the Base to the front gate.
Lynn ” Raider” Tross & Bryan Weldon and Myself made contact with ALL 1st Responders
prior to the mission. As we went thru the front gate , Fairfield PD & FD were at all Intersections
blocking and saluting. We got onto the freeway, it also (6 lanes) were completetly shutdown,
every On-Ramp was closed , every overpass had a Fire Truck on it as well as People saluting.
My friend steve from Walnut Creek PD got 4 Motors , 2 cruisers and 2 FD engines on the
side of the freeway. We got off the freeway in Danville, The Christian school was the 1st to
see us, and us them.The entire school, all the children lining the street on both sides,holding
flags and signs.We got to the bottom of the hill, I set this route up cause it brought us right
to the High School and thru downtown. As we made the left , 2 Ladder Trucks held the
Giant American Flag , which we drove thru. The Entire High School Student Body stood
waiting to see their friend, their hero. We rolled slowly down thru town, Flags and signs
lined the street. Over 3000+ people were there to say Welcome Home Hero as well as
goodbye. I’ve done many missions since “05” , and this was the most heartfelt community
supported attendance I have ever seen.We rolled into the Mortuary and parked , we got
the Flag line setup , with another 100+ Flags there waiting. I went to the Limo and then
got the Family , They stood with us as the Marine Honor Detail Carried the Hero inside,
they Followed him in. We then dismissed , and had our debrief. We also spoke about the
Mission for the church & Cemetery in a couple days.

The next day after the Corral Family came back from Dover,the community wanted to
show support to them By #1 Having a Candle Light Vigil & then #2 a Memorial at
The High School where Chachi Just Graduated , ” San Ramon Valley H.S.” We staged
at the Local Spot by the high school , next door was the Marine Recruiting Office. Well
the night of the Candle light vigil , one of the Marines came over to chat with us. Turns
out he and his Staff Sgt. were going to the Vigil as well. We offered them to roll with us.
So , we headed up to the park , and got set-up. The Corral Family rolled in approx. 15
minutes after. I went over to see Denise & Arnie ( Chachi’s Mom & Dad) , we spoke
for a short bit, then I escoted them to the Flag Line . At the flag line , us , 3 Marines &
3 Danville PD Escorted the Family to the Stage. There must have been 300 + Family,
friends & Neighbors to stand with them. We encircled the stage as best we could , the
paster spoke , amazing grace was sang. Prayers were said and stories were told. Tears
were plentiful this night.
The next night , we staged up, ready for the nights escort. Chachi’s brother Zach wanted
a memorial at the High school. To give folks a chance to share the stories of this young man.
We rolled up to the house , I went to go meet the family. Once ready , we gathered up all
the friends and headed to the High School. we rolled into the back gate thru the school,right
up to the football field. Where we escorted the Corral family to the field. The stands were
filled with family , friends and community. Chachi’s best friend brock(whom we just did a W/H)
spoke , and many of his other friends as well as his family. We also were preparing for
our Heroes return home in a couple days.

The Welcome Home for Tom Sipple Sr (USANG) and Tom Sipple Jr (USAF) was another successful mission.
The Warriors Watch Riders were asked to assist Villas VFW Post 5343 in welcoming home a father and son team.  Dad just returned from Afghanistan and Jr returned home a few weeks ago in time to see the birth of his new baby 2 days later.  The turn-out was extraordinary as roughly 75 bikes from Warriors Watch, US Miltary Vets (of which dad and son are both members), Cape Classics M/C, Nam Knights, Christian M/C, Old Coots on Scoots and I know I’m fogetting one or two groups helped make this an awesome day.
The local Vietnam Military Museum supplied a couple of Army Cadillacs (Jeeps) and a truck to add to the fun of the escort.  Middle Twp PD led the way to the 253rd Armory to pickup our heros with fire trucks from several local depts. with us.
Dad and son were outside expecting Bill Howard to pick them up to take them home when they saw everyone coming across the Garden State Parkway for them.  After being welcomed home by the US Military Vets M/C, everyone else did the whole Mug & Hug.  There were a lot of new riders who were amazed by the whole event.
After being presented with their honor coins from Warriors Watch we proceeded down Rt 9 to the horns and waves of passing motorists and pedestrians.  As we entered Rio Grande the Boy Scouts were out to welcome our heros home.  As we turned onto Rt 47 the Rio Grande FD had their trucks out front with an American flag flying proudly off of the ladder truck.  They greeted our heros with horns and sirens.
We rolled in to VFW Post 5343 and squeezed MOST of the bikes into the parking lot.  Bill Howard (Post Commander) thanked everyone for participating and then handed the microphone to a totally blown away father and son who were grateful for the love and support of everyone involved.
Thank you to all the bike clubs, fire departments, EMS and police for helping to make this a safe and very successful event.

This Mission was brought to us by a fellow Rider (Cal).This Veteran served
during The Korean War. Tony served onboard USS John S. MaCain (DL-3)
a Mitscher Class Destroyer. Tony served 4 years in the Navy as a Machinist
Mate , with the final rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. Our mission was to
pick up the Family & Cremains from their Home and Escort to a Local church.
We stood a Flag Line at the House as they walked to their Cars with the Flag &
Cremains. We Escorted to the Church were we stood the line as they entered. We
then took a break until services were over. We stood the Line as they got back
into their vehicals,then Escorted to the Local cemetery. We then stood the Final
line as the Navy Honor Detail recieved the Flag & Cremains. Finals Honors were
rendered and we dis-missed. Farewell Sailor Farewell.

Mom Irene called us to let us know her son was coming home from Boot Camp.
She wanted to know if we would do something for him , only because he was
coming in from Bootcamp. I said we sure would !! I told her that they ALL Mattered,
even our newest. So, Mark was coming home on a late afternoon flight. We staged
at the Harley Dealership in Oakland, Mom met up with us. Then we rolled over to the
terminal , where Alameda County Sheriff’s parked us at curbside. We ALL went inside
and waited for Marks arrival. In his Uniform he came down the escalator and the look
on his face was priceless. We did a Mug & Hug , grabbed up his gear and headed out
to the vehicals. Was about a 1 hr ride to his families home in Tracy. When we got there,
some of his friends were waiting. We hung around for a short bit, then headed home.Its
allways good to get these cherries, really lets them know from the start that people care,
and that what they just did matters. Sends them on their mission with a great feeling.And
really builds up their morale. Semper Fi young Man.

I was contacted by a comittee member from the United Irish Society about the
parade. Which puzzeled me at first, of how they found us. Well , turns out they
read the News paper artical about our Escort of a WWII MIA Soldier , who had
been missing for 66 years. Pfc. Edward O’toole. They made O’toole Honorary
Grand Marshall of this years Parade. And wanted us to escort the WWII Jeep
carrying his Picture and relative. What an Honor it was to do so. They only
wanted about a dozen of us to escort in the parade.Now thats kinda hard when
you have over 50+ bikes & Hotrods that normally attend parades. So, I requested
Flag Bikes only with our friend Ray’s POW/MIA Corvette. We were going to
stage at the Firehouse on the embarcodero ,where the Fire Boats are kept. I made
a call to check in 1 week prior , the Captain then instructed me ,that we should
attend the mornings Pancake Breakfast in China Basin. Well , we arrived early
at approx. 0800 Hrs. , Staging for the parade was at 1045 Hrs. When we arrived
at the Bayview Boat Club,FD Engines were already there. They greeted us like
family , Many of them remembered us from the Funeral of their 2 Fire Fighters.
So , we ate with them and shared stories, Then came our very own Fire Fighters
from our neighborhood. Jimmy & Reznick brought willie with them. Willie is
the Fire Fighter who is sick with Cancer,which we are doing a Escort / Fundraiser
in a week or so. Well, what a blast we had hanging out there. We then headed
over to our staging area for the Parade. We staged the bikes around the Jeep,
we flew Old Glory , WWII Dedication Flags, POW/MIA Flags , and several
other Patriotic Flags on our Bikes. we were 10th in the lineup , right behind
the SFFD. What a great day, the rain held off and the crowds were plentiful.

Ride Report for Ride Captain Spike

On March 21 , 2009 , 4 Oakland Police Officers were gunned down , the worst loss
of life for OPD ( Oakland Police Department). Los Carnales / La Familia MC is a
Oakland Based Chapter of LEO’s ( Law Enforcement Officers & Friends) who are
very close friends of ours.The President ( MOG ) invited the WWR to attend their
annual ride to visit the gravesites of these officers. All but 1 are here local. So , we
staged at a Starbucks before heading over to their Clubhouse. The invite was a great
honor to us, normally the club keeps this ride very private. We got over to the clubhouse
at around 0930 Hrs. 1 of the members was there early to open up. Pig Pen is also a
Oakland Police Officer and a Reservist in the Marines. He is a Gunnery Sargeant.
we rolled in with 7 bikes, as the members arrived we greeted each other. To me,
our 1st responders are no differant from us(military) their battles are here at home,
ours are somewhere far from home. Los Carnales president MOG is a Very good
friend of mine , he is also active PD Sgt. in Antioch and Friertucks son. We chatted
for a bit , then had a briefing from their Road Captain. The 1st cemetery was just
up the street from the clubhouse , this was our 1st stop. We visited 5 Fallen officer
Gravesites, Dino with “La Familia” brought windex and a towel to clean & polish
up the Markers. Officers John Hege(eow 2009)Officer Miguel Soto(eow 1994),
Officer Stanley Mock(eow 2007),Officer David Marks (eow 1974)  & Officer
David Branhan ( eow 1974). Our Chaplain Trevor was on hand to read from the
book some prayers, The club toasted. We then rolled to Tracy,about 50 miles
east, where we paid respects to Sgt. Mark Dunakin ( eow 2009 ),again trevor
said a prayer. We then rolled back west to Hayward to visit Sgt. Daniel Sakai(eow 2009)
where we said a prayer and the club toasted. Our Last brother Sgt. Ervin Romans(eow “09”)
was laid to rest back east in Michigin. The members toasted to Ervin back at the club house.
It was a Honor to Stand today with all the members of Los Carnales / La Familia & our
very own WWR. Many Members of Los Carnales worked and were friends of these fallen
Officers , So , For us to be invited to participate in a very private ride was a great Honor.

On 7/7/2011, Warriors’ Watch Rider’s had the privilege of sending off Marine LCpl. Tom Boran as he deployed to Afghanistan. He left behind a loving family and a 7 month pregnant wife Kelly as he went to serve Our Country, and we let him know we’d be here to greet him when he returned.

On Sunday 3/11/2012 CPL. Tom Boran and his wife had their 5 month old baby boy Michael Thomas Boran christened one week after Tom’s return from deployment, and Warriors’ Watch Rider’s and A Hero’s Welcome kept their word.

At the request of Mary Small, Tom’s Mother in Law, we gathered to help this family celebrate their special day. We rallied at a nearby shopping center and once the family had departed for the church we headed over to the house where we lined the sidewalk with our bikes and formed a flag line in the street. Most of the neighbor’s came out to join us as they had for the send off we had done and they were proud to be a part of this event.

Cpl. Boran had no idea we were there, but as they approached all that was visible was a sea of Red, White and Blue! After Tom endured a very long line of hugs and handshakes we formally thanked him for his service.

In addition, we were able to show our appreciation to Cpl Boran’s sister, Marine Sgt. Elizabeth Boran who served in the Marine Corp from 2004 through 2009 and served a tour of duty in Iraq during her enlistment. Liz was truly touched, and her allergies got the best of her after we presented her with our Honor Coin!

We all gathered for the customary group shot. As we prepared to leave the family was extremely gracious in their show of appreciation for our effort to support their Marine, and we assured them that Cpl. Boran certainly earned it!

SEPA: W/H SPC William Schaffer III US ARMY

Ride Report for Ride Captain HowardK

On Sunday afternoon April 1, SPC William Schaffer III, US ARMY was recognized for his dedicated service to our country by WWR, AHW, SBMC and many friends and extended family at Philadelphia Airport International Terminal A. He had flown directly from Frankfurt Germany.

William is a 2009 graduate of Bo Manor High School in Chesapeake City MD where he was an avid cross country and track runner. He is also a big Ravens and University of Maryland fan.

William completed basic training at Ft. Jackson SC in September 2009 and completed AIT at Fort Gordon GA in February 2010. His first assignment was Schweinfurt, Germany, Company 44, CM 457. He was deployed to Afghanistan March 16, 2011 as a member of the 44th Signal Battalion Charlie. He returned March 16, 2012.William will be returning to Germany and when he returns to the US will be assigned to Aa Signal Company where he will be supporting the ARMY Southern Command.

William has earned 4 challenge coins from Command Sergeant Majors from combat commands supported in Afghanistan. He has also received 2 Stars and the NATO Medal. He will be receiving another Army commendation medal for his service with the 44th in Germany. William was runner up for the 25th Signal Battalion’s Soldier of the Quarter Board and was recommended for promotion to Sergeant. In June 2011 he was selected as Soldier of the Week.

Warriors Watch Riders were invited to Welcome Home William and provide an escort to Applebee’s in Havertown by his Aunt Susan Boran. WWR, AHW and SBMC rallied at Firebase 69 and after the ride briefing and introduction of the family proceeded together to PHL International Terminal A where we were joined by Philadelphia TV6.

William came through the doors of Terminal A and was “attacked” by his mother

Carmen, father Don, sister Lynn as well as by his aunt, cousins, girlfriend and his girlfriend’s parents. Even infant cousin Jaidyn gave William a big hug. WWR and AHW then formed two flag lines on both sides of the terminal entry and William continued between the flag lines shaking hands and receiving a warm welcome from every member.

The entire group then proceeded downstairs to the front of Terminal A for the escort to Havertown.

We were led from the airport by about eight big-flagged bikes followed by William and his family, and then by about two dozen motorcycles and a few cars. We proceeded south on RT 95 and then up the Blue route where we were met at exit 9 by The Havertown Police, The Marple Twp PD and the Manoa Fire department for the final leg of the escort to Applebee’s Restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant in our usual QUIET manner, well maybe we did honk the horns and rev the engines a bit, and all gathered in front of the restaurant.

William was presented a Warriors Watch Honor Coin by Jeff Story and was then greeted by Maria Hyland and presented a certificate from A Hero’s Welcome to recognize his dedicated service to our nation and offered thanks from a grateful nation. In true WWR tradition we stood for our official MUGGING with William and his extended family after which we allowed them all to go into the restaurant to celebrate Williams return in peace.

Warriors Watch Riders extend our sincere thanks Susan Boran and the entire Schaffer and Eason family for inviting us to participate in this very well deserved welcome home for William. Thank you to A Hero’s Welcome for making this such a proper welcoming ceremony. We would like to thank Second Brigade for their participation and recognition of SPC William Schaffer. We really would like to extend our greatest thanks to The Havertown Police, The Marple Township Police and The Manoa Fire Department for leading us safely to the Manoa Shopping Center and for their strong show of patriotism and support. Also, thank you to Fred Sonsalla and the staff at Applebee’s in Havertown for their support and assistance in arranging this Welcome Home for our HERO.

Ride Report for Ride Captain Spunky Duckling (Tracy Shosh)

On Thursday evening, March 15, 2012 we were asked to surprise Specialist Walter “Walt” Ragsdale by his parents, Dan and Cathy Ragsdale.  Walt received his GED while attending Southern Lehigh High School at the age of 17.  He attended LCCC for one semester and realized school and college just were not for him. He decided to follow the family footsteps and joined the Army.  He is currently with Unit 9131 and is a Route clearance and explosives specialist.  He served in Ghazni Afghanistain from February 2011 through March 2012.  He has received his Airborne and has served with the Sapper unit, and hopes to become a Sapper and Mountain Ranger someday.
Walt had no idea his family had put this surprise Welcome Home, Mug-N-Hug together. He had told his parents that he and those he served with did not think that we back home really cared about them or what was going on overseas.  We all gathered at the Rodeway Inn on along routes 309 and 22 in South Whitehall, PA around 6:30pm. Walts family had taken him out to dinner at Applebee’s and asked that we come to their home shortly after they had gotten back.  We received the call shortly before 6:45pm that they were now home. We mounted up and headed over to their home.  We were sure to make as much noise as possible as we turned the corner right before reaching their home.
As we parked the shock, surprise and astonishment could be seen on Walt’s face as he came out their front door. He was speechless.  We presented him with the Warriors Watch Coin, the Hero’s Welcome certificate and many hugs, hand shakes and thank you’s for all that he has been willing to do for his country.  He is an amazingly humble young man, who plans on being in the Army for the rest of his career. He feels the Army is where he needs to be. Thank you Specialist Ragsdale!  I don’t think you will forget that you are not alone and we do have your back here at home.
