Ride Report posted by Lutz

Master Chief Steven Jancso has served our nation for 22 years. Now, he is home from a deployment to Afghanistan, after 14 months away from his wife Diane and his children. In fact, he left home just after the birth of his twin babies! So the WWR was there to make his homecoming memorable!

A brief bio from his wife: “He has been stationed locally at Willow Grove NAS for the majority of his career. He has worked both as a mechanic and crew chief on C-12 and DC-9. He left VR-52 after assisting with the squadron’s transfer to NJ due to the closing of the base.  Recently (Feb. 2012) he was detached to Rhode Island for The Senior Enlisted Academy.  Then in May he went to ECRC in Norfolk, Va. From there, he went to South Carolina for combat training. He was deployed to Bahrain as the Bahrain Afghan/Kyrgyzstan Desk Officer for Task-Force IA. While over in the Middle East he was selected and promoted to Command Senior Chief. Then on April 19th, 2012, he was selected as the only one Senior Chief to be promoted to Master Chief in his rate. He is currently waiting orders for a Command Master Chief position for his return.”

The Command Master Chief orders have come down, as we understand it, and that takes Jancso to the highest enlisted rank in the Navy!

Wayne Lutz (me) was the RC, and it turns out that the Jancso family are neighbors of mine – living only a few blocks away from where I do up on Edge Hill in Glenside.

The WWR met the family car as they exited the PA Turnpike (driving up from Virginia) in Fort Washington, and after waving him into our rally point parking lot and making them run a flag line, we mounted up and escorted them the rest of the way home to Glenside.

The Abington Police were amazing, sending two cars all the way out to Fort Washington and escorting us the way back. As we rode up Easton Road, the Weldon Fire Company had all their engines out front and sounded a siren-salute as we passed, and when we arrived at the home there were a whole host of people – friends, neighbors, family, waiting with their flags and signs and genuine happiness for the safe return of a love one!

The Glenside News (Montg0 Papers) had a reporterette ride with us and the story of the Jancso welcome appeared on the front page of the News on the following day.

This man deserves all that was given and much more – more beyond our humble ability to honor him. We are very, very grateful that the family asked the WWR and AHW to share in their joy at this homecoming. (One of the good things about this escort is that it was in the rain! There’s nothing like a few drops of water to wake you up on a motorcycle ride!)

So Welcome Home Master Chief Steve Jancso! We rejoice in your safe return!
