All told there were 41 riders, along with a couple of cages, showing Honor and Respect to Bill Schmalbach and his wife, Jane. For the record there was no animosity evident between any of the riders groups. What we did have was a large group of Patriots standing and riding as one for an American Hero who served his country during the Vietnam War.
We stood a flag line outside the chapel until services began. We reformed the flag line when services concluded. We all mounted up for the ride to Bill’s final resting place. Mt Holly LEO took control and made our passage safe as we made our way out of town.
Once at the cemetery a large flag line was made while final prayers were said. Afterward, I shared a quiet moment with Bill’s widow Jane, and placed an Honor Coin in her palm. I let her know that his service to our Country is not forgotten.
Thank you to all who were there in person or in spirit. Thanks to Eric, PGR Ride Captain, for putting the mission first.
Rest in Peace Bill Schmalbach, we have the watch.
