Ride Report posted for RC’s – Cheryl n Steve Riley

It started as a conversation about what WWR is and does, next thing you know we are talking about a send-off / thank you mission for David.

Shelia, our mortgage broker has a friend, David Brugger, who is leaving on Sunday July 5th for his 3rd tour in Iraq and needs a little support. NOOOO problem cuz isn’t this what we do best?!?!  I did explain that the turn out might be a little thin as this mission was scheduled for a Friday at 5:30 pm and on a holiday weekend, but we will do what we can for David. Boy was I wrong!

We set 2 staging locations for members to gather at. We arrived 10 mins earlier then scheduled and found a lot full of bikes. My heart soared, what a great group of people. Not only were they here but they were impatiently waiting to move on to the next location. And it’s a good thing location 2 had a large lot as that one also had many bikes and cages waiting. After a short round of mingling, we got to work. With our LEO and FD who were also excited about this mission in place, we discussed the best route to the home of Shelia where she was having a surprise BBQ send-off party and we were the surprise.

As we circled the block with horns, sirens and harley’s, as well as other makes and models blarring and rumbling, we caught the attention of the party goers who came out to see the excitement. After filling up the driveway we lined the street. Neighbors came out to see what all the noise was about including one who came out with his the bagpipe playing the Marine Hymn (Halls of Montezuma). Once everyone surrounded David we began “SSGT DAVID BRUGGER, This is your SUPPORT TEAM!” We presented David with a printout of the thread and a coin and beads. More clapping and backslapping followed.

David’s mom Shelia and girlfriend Jen were there as family, his grandpa in Florida is his only other family and that is why his friends are so important to him, they are his family. Well David your family just grew ten-fold!

A special thanks to Streamwood Police and Fire depts. for their help and enthusiasm in showing this Hero the support he so rightly deserves. And also to everyone who came out for David, you truly are a special group of people!

This is the largest group in a group photo I’ve taken so far. Now we have our Welcome Home banner waiting for his return!

Thanks to all, to me this was extraordinary!
