Ride Report posted for Brit
Well tonight I did my first RC. We met at the old Sams club in Delran. I counted 20 bikes and a couple of cages but then more bikes showed up so I lost count. We did our usual meeting and headed to the Red Lobster right up the street. As the WWR were setting up the flag line at the door of the restaurant, Leslie YRC and I went in to find our soldier. As we were walking Leslie asked who had the large voice, well that was a toss up but I think she has me beat by a little, so Leslie in her commanding voice, annouced to the ENTIRE restaurant that we needed their attention as we had a HERO present that just returned from Iraq. The ENTIRE and I mean ENTIRE restaurant stood and applauded our soldier. I explained to Kenneth that we had come in quietly on bikes and would like to escort him home but we wouldn’t be so quiet on the ride home, he just smiled from ear to ear. Kenneth and his family then started to exit the restaurant but it took him some time as so many people in the restaurant wanted to shake his hand and thank him for his service. People do care….. Well we finally got him outside, as he walked through the doors and was greated by a blaze of Old Glory his smile got even bigger. What a great flag line, always such a beautiful sight to see all those flags and of course the WWR. We then saddled up and were escorted by Delran Police Department and handed off to Edgewater Park Police Department, (Great job guys, thank you for getting us their safely). Upon arriving at Kenneth and Nicoles home, where his family and friends had gathered along with the Fire Department and the YRC. Thank you Fire Department what an awesome sight. Thank you YRC you came out in force as always. The YRC made their presentation and then I presented our Hero Spc Kenneth Lewis the coin and literature onbehalf of the WWR.
Look ma…. no tears, well…. almost… Until Nicole was speaking and explained how emotional the ride home was with all the bikes and police escorting them, she told us she recently attended a funeral of a fallen soldier and that she was so happy that her soldier came home safely…oops there is was… sweaty eyes. I just can’t get through one mission, but thats a good thing, to have emotion.
For those who have thought of being an RC, I would advise you to step up and do it. We need to releave Redbeard and JohnDelivers of some of their responsibilies as they have been so busy. (they do so much behind the sceens). This mission was effortless, I also received help from Sidecar who set up all the LEO and then actually called LEO as the event progressed which was a huge help to me. Thank you to all who showed up today to support this Hero. Oops… thank you to Boozer for the pictures and thank you Boozer and Smooth for coming out with your booboos… hope you both feel better. (Smooth give our best to your wife and a speedy recovery)
