Ride Report for Ride Captain Stache
June 2nd 2012 we welcomed home Army Sgt Mike Simons. Mike had joined
the Army back in 2007 and served as a forward observer. He was
deployed 3 times with the Rangers, once to Iraq, and twice to
Afghanistan. He was first with the 3rd Ranger Battalion and then
transferred to the 82nd Airborne. Mike completed his obligation and
left as a Sgt and now proudly wears his Airborne Wings and Ranger Tab
! Last March Mike was home and was injured in a motorcycle accident
where he ultimately lost his leg. This did not stop him ! Mike has a
passion for crew and after a few weeks recuperating returned to Lake
Lenape to see his team just in time for the first race of the season.
He is currently assistant coach for Cedar Creek HS. After one of his
kids complained about a minor injury, Mike told this kid to go to the
cafeteria and get a straw and SUCK IT UP !! Which is now his catch
phrase and had shirts printed with this logo for sale at the event !
It was such an honor for me as well as my 20 fellow bikers to mug and
hug him at the house, then escort him to a charity beef and beer to
help raise money for a prosthetic leg. We had help from Linwood ,
Galloway and Hamilton Twp Police Depts, who blocked intersections and
made the way for us to get to Mays Landing Country Club where a local
news team filmed us rolling in and you can watch via this link

After we parked our bikes, Mike’s mom came over to me and said she was
a little nervous about being in the middle of all those bikers, but
she did say?..this was the coolest thing she?d ever been part of and
Mike had also expressed the same sentiment, he was so excited to see
all of us and be in the middle of all the bikes! The beef and beer was
a huge success, a few of us had stayed and all had a great time, after
all, it was for a great cause ! Meeting Mike was a pleasure, he’s so
upbeat and nothing is going to stop this man ! He is a definite role
model not only for his kids in crew, but for all of us ! So Sgt Mike
Simons, Welcome Home and Thank you for your service and hard work
defending this country ! It was an honor meeting you ! And I have a
feeling Mike will be riding again at some point…….call it a hunch
!!
