Ride Report for Ride Captain HowardK

Saturday May 19th the weather was beautiful for Bensalem Township’s Armed Forces Day celebration and ceremony honoring our nation’s heros from all past wars and conflicts.

WWR rallied at the Kohl’s shopping center on Street Road in Bensalem at 9:00. At 9:50 we formed our procession and paraded to the Bensalem Township Municipal Building a very short distance away where we had reserved parking at the circle in front of the building. Our two dozen members broke out their 3 by 5 flags and proceeded to the amphitheater area where we formed a flag line in front of the picnic pavilion.

At 10:00 the honor procession, led by the Old Barracks Fife and Drum Corps, assembled in front of our flag line and marched into the amphitheater. They were followed by veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, Desert Storm, Vietnam, Korea and World War II. After all veterans had taken their places, the WWR flag line fell in behind the vets for the ceremony honoring their service and sacrifice.

At the conclusion of the ceremony all veterans and attending guests moved to the large tents erected at the rear of the field. Inside the tents were presentation tables from many military support groups and local companies supporting the veterans. There was also plenty of food and drink to cap off this veterans recognition day ceremony.

Following is a quote from WWR member Dutch

I stand to honor those who defend our nation and protect our freedoms. To all that wear the uniform, we salute you and thank you for your dedication and loyalty to this great nation. Our forefathers set the standards, and our present day warriors have been entrusted to preserve and maintain with integrity. Every Welcome Home we do reminds me that we are in great hands. Sleep tight tonight … our Armed Forces are awake and watching. SALUTE… THUMBS UP… GODSPEEDI stand to honor those who defend our nation and protect our freedoms. To end our nation and protect our freedoms. T WWR would like to thank Larry Rubini and all Bensalem Township Municipal staff for organizing this very fitting recognition of our nation’s veterans and for inviting WWR to be part of this very well organized event. We would like to thank Bensalem PD and Sgt John Gladu for their patriotism, support and participation in this veteran’s recognition ceremony. Most of all, THANK YOU veterans for your service and sacrifice, without which our nation and citizens could not enjoy the freedoms we all have today. ll th wear the uniform, we salute you and thank you for your dedication and loyalty to this great nation.
