Ride Report for Ride Captain Doug Askren

On a bright sunny autum Saturday afternoon 45 bikes and several four wheeers showed up to welcome home an Army Ranger.  Cpl. Mike Diakomis has ended his term of service and is home to enroll in college.  We met at the staging area and rode over to our heros home in mass with the help of the Naperville PD and Fire Dept.  We then escorted Mike and his family to the VFW where several support organizations made presentations.  Mike’s grandfather and great grandfather are also veterans and were in attendance.  We presented challenge coins and beads to all three of our heros.  The young Cpl thanked us for our support and recognition and then asked us to remember three members of his special operations team that were KIA.  We thank Michael for his brave and courageous service during many dangerous missions.  He served for five years and three deployments.  He is truly a hero.  Thanks to Donna and Jim M for organizing this event and thanks to all our members and our associat groups for making this welcome home a smashing sucess, and surpassing everyones expectations while thanking this young hero and honoring his fallen brothers.  Thanks also to the Naperville PD and Fire for this mission and their continued support of our mission.  Thanks to the soldier’s family for letting us welcome Mike home at the end of his honorable service.

Respectfully,
Doug Askren
