Ride Report posted for Doug

On a warm Friday night in Romeovillle Il a group of about 20 Motorcycles, 10 cages and a Vintage USMC Jeep staged in a parking lot.  We were led by Romeoville Police and Plainfield EMS and followed up by a fire engine and ambulance from Lockport Fire Dist.  Our motorcade headed over to the family home of Lance Corporal Douglas Welliver III.  We surprised the young Marine with motors roaring, horns blasting and sirens wailing.  The friends and family of this fine Marine lined the street and gathered at the home.  Douglas was joined by his father and mother, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and nephews.  Lcpl Welliver was warmly welcomed and thanked.  We coined him and presented our beads and a plaque announcing the mission.  He of course was overwhelmed and very grateful for the recognition.  Operation Welcome You Home, led by Donna M. were our partners and did much of the organizing.  We were joined by our bagpiper Tammy, wailing out the Marine Corps anthem as well as other patriotic tunes.  Miss Teen IL was even there to mug and hug with our hero.  The occasion was very exciting and uplifting.  We pray for the safe return of our hero.

Thanks to the above mentioned LEOs, our loyal members, friends and neighbors  of the Marine, the Fox Valley and Joliet Marine corp. league and the family for including the WWR in this momentous occasion.  Most of all thanks to our brave, and courageous Marine going back to the fight to defend our way of life.  God bless and keep him.

Respectfully,
Doug Askren RC NIL WWR
