Ride Report posted for Fuzzy
Don’t ya just love it when a plan comes together!
A beautiful Saturday afternoon, 25 bikes, 1 cage and 2 N.J. State Police cars chomping at the bit to get to the diner to hug a Hero.
ABE3 Shawn Allen had just returned home from his 3rd deployment and his family had a little surprise for him. Ok, a big loud surprise!
We got our flag line set up just as Shawn was exiting the diner and the look on his face when he saw us was priceless. Nobody had to tell him to walk the line so we could do our patented Mug and Hug. He dove right in and greeted us like we were long lost friends!
When asked if he would allow us to escort him home to a party in his honor I believe his exact words were,”Hell Yea!”
With 2 N.J. State Police cruisers leading the way we made our way to Riverside where it looked like the whole town had come out to Welcome him Home. Riverside Police met us the the Riverside border and made sure we a clear path all the way home.
We made a little detour past the Riverside Fire Department where Shawn had served as a volunteer before enlisting in the Navy. Riverside and Riverton F.D. had used their ladder trucks to form an arch over the main street with a huge flag waving from them. Engines revved and horns blew as we passed the men and women of the combined fire departments standing at attention and saluting Shawn as he drove by.
We made our way to the house where Shawn’s brothers and sisters had decorated like it was Memorial Day and the 4th of July all together. Neighbors had balloons and Welcome Home signs all over their yards. The Yellow Ribbon Club had also added their own special touch with yellow ribbons on trees and flags lining the road as we made our approach. This town sure does know how to celebrate a Hero!
The Yellow Ribbon Club was there along with Congressman Jon Runyon and Officers from the Delran VFW. And of course the WWR was there to coin Shawn as well.
Shawn has re-enlisted and has volunteered to join his ship, the USS Enterprise on her final tour before being de-commisioned.
Robin, Shawn’s Mom said to me, “Some people look all their lives for a Hero. I get to have mine call me Mom.”
I think that says it all about this exceptional young man.
Thank You Shawn for allowing us to be a part of this special day.
Most of all, Thank You for your continuing service to this great nation.
