Short notice honor missions are usually tough- normally held during the day when most of us are busy working, but one WWR member is better than none. HM3 Van Price’s widow and family were very understanding.

HM3 Van Barrick “Ricky” Price USN was born on January 18, 1956 to Gloria price in Chicago, IL. After a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, he passed away on Monday, January 25, 2010. He earned the nickname “Ricky” because of his fiesty and competitive nature. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie A. Price and his siblings Robert and Richard.

As a young man growing up, Van was an avid karate competitor, and then joined the Navy to “see the world.” As he mellowed with age, fishing became his passion and he would snag anyone who was available to go at 5 in the morning.

In the early 80’s, Van was the founder of Capital Mortgage Funding Corp, one of the largest black owned mortgage banking firms in the midwest and was also a John Marshall Law School graduate. He continued his law practice until his health allowed him not to. Van served in the United States Navy as an HM3 Hospital Corpsman Third Class Petty Officer and his widow Wenora also serves in the United States Navy as a First Class Petty Officer. HM3 Van Price will surely be missed. HM3 Van Price was laid to rest honorably at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL this afternoon.
