From the Gazeebo...
WWR: Sizzlin' Summer Stuff
The 4th of July has passed, and the WWR was busy in many places around the country on that day. Now, the period between Memorial Day and the 4th of July is MY time. Being the Grand Gazeebo on those days is kind of like being Irish on St. Patricks's Day. Cut me, and I bleed red-white and blue. My neighbors probably wonder that they can't see my house because it's covered in flags. And most of you are probably the same.
New Jersey was busy all day long that day, with parades and events that kept them running. Georgia, Illinois, California - every chapter had things going on. Here in Pennsylvania, we had the Glenside 4th of July Parade. This is one of the largest and oldest 4th parades in the nation. And on this forth of July it was packed!

The weather here was perfect - this is the first 4th of July in recent memory where there was no threat of rain and the day was warm and dry, not hot, not humid - just perfect. Thousands of people lined the parade route.
The Warriors' Watch was positioned in the First (of three) Divsion, near the end of that division. The theme of that division is "United We Stand," and we had invited all clubs to ride with us in a show of solidarity for the support of our troops. Our entry was a sort of mock-welcome-home escort. In a convertible in the front we put the two soldiers we had just most recently welcomed home - Sgt. Sinead Kelly and Spc. AJ Trotto - two very special young people. (Read about Sinead HERE and about AJ HERE).
Then we flanked the car with motorcycles on all four corners, one bike each carrying one military branch flag - Army, Navy, Marines and Airforce. The rest of the 80 or so bikes, all flagged and looking great, came in behind in one large grand demonstration of what we do so well.
Our entry, but most of all our warriors in the car, were EXTREMELY well received by the crowd, and the two warriors had a great time. Halfway through we spied another uniformed soldier in the crowd, and we hauled him up into the vehicle to finish the ride with us to finish out the parade.
We had a great time, and it was all the better because we shared it with the military heroes. Welcome home Sinead and AJ!

But now we begin to settle in to the Dog Days of Summer. The next important date on our calendars is September 11. Here in SE PA, we are planning some special things for that day - and we may just have some Warriors Watch Riders from Georgia joining us! The Garden of Reflection in Bucks County plays a big part in this, so we will keep you informed of the very special events planned around that in support of our nations warriors and especially our First Responders. After all, it was the Police and Firefighters and EMTs who were the first on the scene, and the first do sacrifice their lives - on that horrible day in 2001. We dare never forget.
But between now and then we are as busy as ever with our missions and rides and welcomes and sendoffs and FGR support activities. You have to keep checking the Mission Planning Forums to be sure you don't miss a thing. So I will look forward to riding with you, and until then, THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR WARRIORS! TOGETHER WE ARE CHANGING THE CULTURE - ONE WARRIOR AT A TIME!

*This newsletter is named "The Weekly Ride" or "The Ride", for short, in memory of and to honor Sgt. Jennifer Hartman, U.S. Army. Sgt. Hartman was killed in Iraq by America's enemies. She died in defense of our freedom at the age of 20. This quote from Jennifer was read at her graveside:
"It's not about what happened in the past. It's not about what might happen in the future. It's about the ride, for Christ's sake."
