It is with a heavy heart that i post the following mission, Karen Crawford's father passed away on 4/7/20 and we received this request from Karen and Bob.

Karen's dad passed away yesterday and she would like a flagline and escort for Army Spc4 James G Gumpper 81 of Northeast Philadelphia. Retired Police officer.

GUMPPER JR, JAMES GAMBLE (Jim) of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Wednesday April 7, 2021, at the age of 81. Jim was the loving husband of the late Carol Bernadette (nee Diener) and was the caring father to the late James Charles Gumpper. James is survived by his devoted daughter Karen Ann Crawford (James Robert "Bob"), loving son Michael Gumpper (Paula), and many grandchildren whom he adored: Michael James, Mary Joy, Sarah Lynn, Samantha, Abigail, Emily, and Katherine.

James was born in Philadelphia to the late James and Clara Gumpper (nee George). He had many siblings whom he cherished: He was the loving brother to Alice Mazaika and Miriam Sippel. Jim follows his other siblings Shirley Cardon, Kathryn Strike, William Gumpper, Claire Jasinski, Barbara Schmidt, Ronald Gumpper, and Donald Gumpper into rest. He was a loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

James attended Mastbaum High School in Philadelphia PA. Following high school, he obtained a job in order to help support his family.

James proudly served in United States Army from late 1950's to early 1960's, rank SP4.

He spent most of his career as a Philadelphia Police Officer. He was Class 209, June 1, 1970. On August 26, 1970, he graduated from the Police Academy and was assigned to the 14th District at Germantown and Haines Streets. He was then transferred to the 15th District, and on July 31, 1980, he was transferred to the 8th District at 3100 Red Lion Road from where he retired on July 5, 1989.

James and his late wife Carol lived most of their later years down the shore in the Wildwood, NJ area. He was great with his hands and could always figure out a way to fix things. Jim enjoyed the beautiful sunsets upon the bay, crabbing, fishing, but most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends, and celebrating with those he loved.

Relatives and friends are invited to James' Life Celebration, on Wednesday evening April 14, 2021 from 6PM to 8PM at John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia PA 19154; and on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 9AM to 10AM at John F.
