We’ve been asked to have a flag line for the late Navy Master Chief, John H M Funderburg.
John Funderburg went home to be with his beloved wife on Sunday, October 8th at the age of 94, with his family at his side.
John served for many years in the Navy before retiring as a Master Chief, where he found the joys of living a fulfilling life as a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His favorite past times included camping, fishing, woodworking, experimenting in the kitchen, and just spending time with his family.
Born to Viola Burke and William Funderburg near Pell City, Al. John enlisted at the age of 17 to serve his country in the Navy. During his 32 years of service, John saw combat in WWll, the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict.
John is pre-deceased by his wife of 64 years, Anna M. (nee Weldon) Funderburg and son, Glenn Funderburg
He is survived by sons James (Diane), Charles, Michael (Frances) and daughters Deborah (Kevin) and Teresa (Michael) as well as 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
John will be remembered by his grandchildren as "Poppy", a loving source of strength to them. He was always there to support all of their endeavors, many times providing child care when they were off from school as youngsters.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend his viewing, Tuesday October 17, 2023 from 6-8 PM
