SEPA 6/27 H/M Escort George “Poppy” Karalius USMC Warriors' Watch is glad to honor this veteran! George was born in Lithuania in 1937, and had a tumultuous childhood during World War II where his family constantly moved. In 1950, his family was sponsored and immigrated to the United States settling in Philadelphia. He graduated from Central High School and Temple University. He had three phases of work life. First, he is a Marine, "Semper Fi". His second career was with the City of Philadelphia where he started as a Lifeguard and retired as the Deputy Commissioner of the Recreation Department. During his tenure, his most recognized call of duty was running the Mummer’s Parade, a well known Philadelphia tradition for a decade. After retiring at 55, he wasn’t quite ready for a rocking chair. So, he joined his son, Rob at New York Life. George was married to Pat for 60 years. He is a proud father of 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. The family has asked for a flag line and escort to his final resting place.
