Robert F. Oettel, formerly of Perkasie, PA, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Twp., PA. He was 99.
He was the loving husband of Dorothy L. (Graver) Oettel, who passed on December 7, 1996.
Born in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Karl and Mary (Cunningham) Oettel. He was a 1940 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, Perkasie, PA.
A U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, Mr. Oettel served with the Signal Corps in the European Theatre and the Battle of the Bulge.
He was employed as a machine operator by AMETEK, Inc., U. S. Gauge Division, Sellersville, PA, for over 43 years until retiring in 1983.
Mr. Oettel was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, PA.
A member of the Hartzell-Crouthamel American Legion Post No. 280, Perkasie, and the Telford VFW Post No. 5308, Telford, PA, he was active with the Warriors’ Watch Riders.
Mr. Oettel was a member of the Shiloh-MacCalla Lodge No. 558 F&AM, Souderton, PA, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Lehigh Consistory, Allentown, PA, where he served as a Scribe. A former member of the Perkasie Order of Owls’ Nest and the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1539, Sellersville, PA, he especially enjoyed collecting stamps. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Priscilla I. Bishop and her husband W. Dale, of Perkasie; four grandchildren, Collette D. Hendler, Gary D. Bishop and his wife Mary, Timothy B. Bishop and his wife Amy, and C. Scott Bishop and his wife Cortney; and nine great-grandchildren, Brittany Dietz, Kelsey and Alex Hendler, Nicholas and Bryan Bishop, Jason and Casey Bishop, and Anna and Sara Bishop. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Mann and Mary Russell, and a brother, Karl Oettel, Jr.
His Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. A Masonic Service will be held at 9:45 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Face masks are required. Interment will follow in Quakertown Union Cemetery, Quakertown, PA.
