Douglas Scheifele Allen was born in Hackettstown, NJ on January 29, 1921. On January 29, 2021, with his friends and family, celebrated his 100th birthday on FaceTime. On February 2, 2021, just four days later, Doug passed away, peacefully, in his sleep, at 8:30 Am EST.

Growing up in Hackettstown, he stated that he was the toughest kid on his block. Of course, he followed that by saying his was the only house on the block. Doug worked as an architectural draftsman, but having only a fifth grade education he didn’t feel he had the math skills to fulfill his dream of being a full fledged architect. Doug enlisted and served in WWII as a member of the Army-Air Corp. After returning home from the war his brother Jim introduced him to the woman who became his wife: Joy Plant. They enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage. Working as a union structural steel ironworker, they raised three sons: Scott, Jay, and Todd.

Along with being a Commander of VFW, Morris Plains Post 3401 and now, a new member of the Century Club, Doug was also an avid carpenter and wood carver, a painter in water and oil colors, flying Cessna 150’s and dancing with Joy.

Doug is survived by his sons: Todd David, his wife Donna, Jay (BJ) Mark, his fiancé Dale, Douglas Scott, his wife Robin, and five grandchildren: Brienna Allen O’Neill, her husband Luke, Aria Allen Buscemi, her husband Anthony, Cara Marie Allen, her fiancé Brendan, Kasmira Grace Allen, her fiancé Brett and Allegra Danielle Allen.

At the time of his passing, Doug was in residence at the Cadbury Senior Living Center in Cherry Hill. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no services. Blake-Doyle Funeral Home in Collingswood, NJ is taking care of all arrangements. A private memorial will be held at a time to be determined. In lieu of flowers,
