SEPA 4/5 Honor Mission William Nieves

Warriors' Watch has been asked by this hero's family to be part of his final services.

My grandfather Guillermo Nieves known as William Nieves was born in Manati, Puerto Rico on July 14th 1927.

He enlisted in the Army (Puerto Rico) as a private in January 1952. He received an Honorable discharge January 25th 1960. He went to Korean war and throughout his life he always remembered the days with his comrades and how they all survived. He loved to tell family and friends all about it. Loved to talk to my husband who is currently active duty. He shared with us how they had to hide to eat their meals during combat and how traveling with the army was during those times. The last few months a military community from Virginia sent him letters and presents and I was telling him …I live in Va and don’t get many letters. His response to me.. Of course not. You didn’t go to war like me !! they are sending gifts to the hero! Lol. Nonetheless he was humbled by the love given to him.
William moved to Philadelphia from NYC in the 90s and made it his home until the last day of his breath. He loved to see people and cars passing by. He was very energetic. Nobody could beat him. He woke up every day around 6 am to prepare his coffee, get the newspaper in the store and then work in fixing his car or stuff around the house. He was a handyman too for many in the neighborhood.

My grandfather was such a gentle human being always helping people. He had a wonderful sense of humor and nobody could stay serious around him. always talked about the importance of family relations.

Good morning Tom. I would like to say a big THANK YOU!! For the beautiful presence of the Warriors Watch for my grandfather William Nieves funeral. It was very emotional and beautiful to see all of them standing with the American flag honoring him.
My heart fills with Joy knowing that you all are doing such a fine and rewarding job. Thank you!
My prayers will always be with you all so you can continue to serve the Military families past and present.

Sylvia Melendez.
Have a wonderful and blessed weekend.
