Hi Lee, I just wanted to send out a gigantic “Thank You!” to the Warrior’s Watch group from the residents and staff here at Buchert Ridge Community. It meant so much to us and the Veterans and their spouses who live here that you volunteered your time to come over here and honor them. I had several Veterans come up to me after your group left and comment on how much they enjoyed your presentation, and hearing about what your group does. On a personal note, last Friday I called one of our residents who I know is a Veteran, but hadn’t seen his name on our sign-up sheet of attendees. He told me that Veteran appreciation events aren’t his favorite thing because he served as a medic with the Air Force in Vietnam, and had some bad experiences when he came home. (He mentioned a specific time where he was yelled at and spit on by a group of protesters.) I desperately wanted him to come out and see your group. (I finally managed to coax him out for the free meal J) He is often gruff, and generally cynical (understandably), but your group made an impact. I think it was the first Veteran presentation that ever truly meant something to him. On behalf of the Buchert Ridge Community family, I want to thank you and the Warrior’s Watch group for finally giving him the respectful welcome home that he had never gotten.
