Ride Report for Ride Captain Sarge
WWR,
On 1/27/2013, WWR assembled a motorcade and proceeded to “Oaks by the Bay Park” in St Andrews. The crowd was building in the park as Veterans, their families and patriots had gathered to anxiously await the opening ceremony, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam Armistice signing. A plaque recognizing, and dedicated to Vietnam Veterans had been laid honoring these American heroes.
Shortly after the motorcade entered the park a bell began to toll as each name of the many fallen Vietnam Veterans from Florida were read. The ceremonial program consisted of: Posting of the Colors by the USMC ROTC, Precision Rifle Drill by the USAF ROTC drill team, and multiple guest speakers. Approximately 50 Vietnam veterans were ordered front and center, were they assisted in the unveiling of the plaque which had been laid in their honor. Emotions ran deep as many Veterans realized that they were finally being “WELCOMED HOME” by a grateful community. It has been a long 40 years brother’s and sister’s; “NEVER AGAIN”. Thanks to NWFVTF for spearheading this memorable event.
