Ride Report for Ride Captain Chuck S
It was a beautiful, sunny, 30-degree Sunday afternoon. Today we were welcoming home SPC Ian Lynch of Palatine, IL. Ian just returned home from his 2nd deployment in Afghanistan where he was a Tactical Explosive Detector Dog Handler with Company B., 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
This was to be a Meet N Greet mission, we staged two blocks from Ian¡¯s house in a parking lot where Ian attended high school. We had 2 bikes, 18 cages, 1 police car, 3 fire trucks, channel 7 and Fox News.
The plan was to have Dad bring Ian outside to help him carry a box from the car as we were leaving the parking lot, within seconds the driveway was covered with Ian¡¯s family and friends who were there to celebrate his home coming, and here we come, sirens and horns blaring as we turn onto his street. When everyone gathered together we presented Ian with our coin and beads, we also read an email from the Mayor who was unable to attend.
After signing our banner and taking pictures, we presented beads to his grandfather a WWII veteran and his uncle a Viet Nam era veteran. Ian will be headed to Fort Carson in Colorado after spending the holidays with his family.
Honoring one of our American Heroes with all my warrior watch brothers and sisters was a great way to close out the year.
