Ride Report posted for Spike
I received an email from one of our local groups – The Patriot Sentinels MC. My friend Larry, aka Gator is the President. He was contacted by a woman who said that her father had passed away at Martinez V.A. Hospital. Larry shared with her that the WWR would be the better group to organize the escort. Her brother recalls meeting me (Spike) at a visit to the V.A. back in ’07. Heidi and I were in his room to chat and bring him cookies so that’s how her brother knew me. We made arrangements with the family to meet at a mortuary in Concord and to escort this fallen Captain (age 101) to a local cemetary in Pleasant Hill. We staged at a local Starbucks prior to riding to the funeral home.
It started to drizzle, but not very hard so we headed over to the funeral home. We had 13 bikes and a cage. We set-up the flag line at the funeral home as Robert was carried out to his coach. We headed out to Pleasant Hill without any problems. Once at the cemetary, the Army Honor Guard carried him to his final resting place. We stood the final flag line as honors were presented. Farewell Captain and Thank You For Your Service.
