Ride Report posted for Bluesman

After a year in Iraq, Spc. Matthew Gajdys, U.S. Army, is home. Home with his wife, mother, sisters, brother, friends and family.

This was a very short notice mission. All of the details were not available until less than twenty-four hours before his arrival time at Wilkes Barre/Scranton Intl. Airport, Avoca, PA!

But on a Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 PM, about a dozen Patriots gathered at the airport terminal, awaiting his 3:30 PM arrival. His mother and sisters carried signs. The rest carried flags, in honor of a young hero who has given so much of his life for his country. Television news coverage was even on the scene…ABC local affiliate WNEP- TV.

Matthew is only home for a few days, then will be stationed in Texas. There is a possibility that he will be deployed again in the next year, to Afghanistan. But for now, he is home, stateside, and safe. And enjoying some well-earned time with his loved ones.

A part in his honor was held in Dickson City, PA, shortly after his arrival. Even though the short notice prevented us from arranging a motorcycle escort, several riders did follow the family’s car to the party, with flags flying…telling all who passed them on Northeast Pennsylvania’s Interstate 81, that another American Hero is home!

My deepest gratitude to all who came out on such short notice, several traveling many miles, just to spend a moment to hold a flag, cheer, and hug a hero.

Respectfully Submitted,
