The 2nd Annual Military Appreciation Day started out better than last year’s.  The skies were overcast, but there was no rain early in the day.  Attendance was way up at the Roslyn Valley Car Show and Fall Festival.  By the time I arrived there was just enough room to get our bikes on the street in front of the Roslyn VFW grounds.  Last year we could hardly see the displays, but this year they were right beside and across from us.

We set up a table next to Mom 4R Marines, and Semper Fi Families.  We had 8 bikes and about 15 WWR members there so it was a pretty good showing.  We spent several hours talking to people, handing out brochures, and walking back and forth to the free-food tent.

Unfortunately our luck did not hold out.  Around 6:15 PM the rain started and the show cars started to flee for their heated garages.  With the threat of a heavy storm approaching, Susan Hunt, the organizer, ordered us home for our own safety.  The Ceremony at Dusk, which was to be our main event, was moved indoors.  Around 9:00 PM that night, I got a call from Susan.  She informed me that at the ceremony we were presented two Commendations for our work, one from the State and one from Abington Township!  Luckily Country Mike was there to accept them for the WWR.  I thanked Susan profusely since I am sure she is the one that sowed the seeds for those.  Oh, and Susan wants us back again next year, so put it on your calendars.
