From the Gazeebo...

Honor, respect, and remember.

Warriors' Watch Riders,

I’d like to tell you about an American Warrior named Jennifer Hartman. Jennifer was described by her friends and family as a sort of a “tomboy.” She loved to ride. All terrain vehicles, dirt bikes, anything exciting that put her in the wind and went fast.

Jennifer joined the Army in July, 2003, at the age of 18, because she believed it was the right thing to do. In December of 2005 SGT Jennifer Hartman deployed with the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On September 14, 2006, one of the enemy drove a car bomb into Jennifer’s barracks, ending her short life in a massive explosion that she had no chance of escaping.

On a damp, cold and misty September dawn nearly three years ago, I and almost two hundred other patriots JUST LIKE YOU went for a ride to New Ringold, Pennsylvania, to attend the funeral of Sgt. Jennifer Hartman. I remember that day as a fierce, emotional punch to the gut. After the service we escorted Jennifer’s remains to a nearby cemetery. There, at her graveside, the priest read aloud a quote. Jennifer had written this to a friend who was feeling down. It was one of the most profound things I have ever heard from anyone, much less from a girl who at the time was only 20 years old. For the three years since I have used this in my signatures and to this day I try to live by it. Jennifer wrote:

“It’s not about what happened in the past. It’s not about what might happen in the future. It’s about THE RIDE, for Christ’s sake.”

Fellow bikers, fellow Patriots: The Past is written, we cannot change it. But we can and we MUST honor the ghosts of the past whose blood it was that was spilled for our sakes and for the sake of generations then as yet unborn.

This newsletter, "The Weekly Ride," is named for Jennifer Hartman. I have since that time taken to seeing things in terms of what we hold to be important - the ride or the destination. The ride is the thing, the ride is everyting.

This September, in honor of the 3rd anniversary of Jennifer Hartman's death, Texas WWR State Coordinator, Dennis "Big Country" Winegar has initiated a Ride to return his unit's coveted American Flag from Ft. Hood TX to Pennsylvania in honor of Sgt. Jennifer Hartman. This flag will be carried by motorcycle from:

Texas, to

Louisianna, to

Mississippi, to

Alabama, to

Georgia, to

South Carolina, to

North Carolina, to

Virginia, to

Maryland. Once in Maryland, the flag will take a detour from the "as the crow flies" rout. It will be taken from Maryland to

Delaware, to

New Jersey, and finally to

Pennsylvania.

On September 14 the flat will be carried on it's final leg to the home of Jennifer's family and delivered with reverence.

The Journey of Jennifer's Flag will be documented and the participants will have the memory of an act of love and honor to carry with them for the rest of their lives.

God Bless Sgt. Jennifer Hartman and her family.

*This newsletter is named "The Weekly Ride" or "The Ride", for short, in memory of and to honor Sgt. Jennifer Hartman, U.S. Army. Sgt. Hartman was killed in Iraq by America's enemies. She died in defense of our freedom at the age of 20. This quote from Jennifer was read at her graveside:

"It's not about what happened in the past. It's not about what might happen in the future. It's about the ride, for Christ's sake."
