WWR Birthday Bash!

The first annual Warriors' Watch Riders Birthday Bash is in the history books. Legacy? Residual emotion, leftover warm-fuzzies? You betcha. Not just another bit of  flotsam in a turbulent sea of memories, the Birthday Bash instead promises to leave in its wake a legacy of pride, honor, and renewed respect for the power of the WWR brotherhood.

A prize to anyone who can figure out that that means.

The day in SE PA was perfect. The sense of camaraderie was palpable. The food - it was a whole, 110 pound roast pig, for crying out loud - and that in addition to burgers and dogs, chicken and pasta and taters and such. Amazing.

The day was perfect weather-wise - the driest day in the last 10 or so here in the Philly area. After noon the sun broke and it was pleasantly cool/warm and perfect.  The Ride was the highlight of the day for many of us, a 50-mile trek across winding, undulating back roads, a carelessly tossed ribbon of asphalt strewn through the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside, over cricks and through green pastures, past farm houses and barns and grazing horses, through covered bridges, the mid-point of which brought us to Wayne's Woods in the middle of Valley Forge park, one of the most beautiful and historically chilling sites in this nation - one of the most famous sites of the war for freedom and independence that started it all.

The master planner of the ride was Fefe, and I once again extend my most heartfelt thanks and congratulations to her for the safe and professional execution of this group ride.

The master planner of the 1st annual WWR birthday bash was John Stein, long-time faithful friend and rider since way back in pre-wwr days. John, his wife, his daughters, and his mom and dad worked like demons to put this all together, and the result was nothing less than total success and a unanimously voiced "Bravo!"

It was great, y'all. Fan-freaking-tastic.

I present for your perusal several links to photos taken by some of our participants. Warriors' Watch Riders, THANK YOU FOR A GREAT FIRST YEAR!

Now, year number 2 is underway, and there are Warriors to Welcome. Let's Ride!

*This newsletter is named "The Weekly Ride" or "The Ride", for short, in memory of and to honor Sgt. Jennifer Hartman, U.S. Army. Sgt. Hartman was killed in Iraq by America's enemies. She died in defense of our freedom at the age of 20. This quote from Jennifer was read at her graveside:

"It's not about what happened in the past. It's not about what might happen in the future. It's about the ride, for Christ's sake."
