A Note from the Gazeebo...
TO YOU, THE WARRIORS' WATCH RIDERS:
Welcome to the first issue - Volume 1, Number 1 - of the weekly electronic newsletter "The Weekly Ride." The Ride is not intended to clutter your inbox with fluff, nor do we have anything to sell. Rather, the purpose of this newsletter is to keep you, the WWRider, informed and engaged in all of our Troop-and-Military-Family Support activities. This newsletter is being sent to all members (a membership that as of this writing covers 32 States, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan) as well as to our coalition partners and our sister organizations.
The first part of each issue of The Ride will contain detailed itinerary information for all upcoming WWR Missions in all states, regions and demographic areas of coverage. Type of mission, locations, dates, times, rally points, and links to updates will be provided.
We will then also provide past ride reports, notes on administrative issues that are of interest to al members, member information and updates, and anthing else we see that will make The Ride both informative AND interesting.
Warriors' Watch Riders, this organizaiton and the manner in which it came into being is nothing short of phenominal. The WWR is virtually pulsating with life, and your passion for the support of our troops, veterans and military family members is its lifeblood. Your belief in the WWR, in what we are doing, have done and will do, is the life-force of this group. Browse the links to the left and see just what it is we - you, me, and a thousand others - have built here. Read the hundreds of stories of Welcome Homes. Browse the forums and see the life, the vitality, the passion that infuses that medium. Scan the membership rolls and the state forums and the leadershp rosters and be as amazed as I am at the excitement that is generated here. "Excitement?" Excitement about what, exactly?
Well, I wrote above that we have nothing to sell here, but that isn't exactly true. We do have something to sell, but it is an easy sell if anything ever was. We are selling honor, respect, and a deeply abiding sense of duty and responsibility to pay back those who risk their very lives in OUR defense. Those are our troops. Sharing the risk, paying their dues in long months of fearful waiting and sacrifice of family comfort and security are the families. Looking on with memories, often harsh and painful memories, of their own sacrifice, are our veterans. To all of these we owe our existance as an organizaiton, but also and more importantly, as a nation.
We the People - you, I, and each one of us, are free men and women. We are free because of the sacrifice, and all too often the spilled blood, of those who the WWR exists to honor. We dare not ever forget that, at risk of losing our very souls.
Warrors' Watch Riders, welcome to the weekly RIDE. Now, for the sake of our troops, for the love of our nation, let's rock, let's roll, and LET'S RIDE!

He has been serving as a Sniper Scout in the US Army 5-1 CAV Brigade. He has recently been driving Strykers in Diyala, Iraq. He was briefly injured when he first got to Iraq when his vehicle hatch came down on his arm breaking it, but he quickly healed and returned to his unit as a radio dispatcher until his cast came off. He then returned to his regular duties. He has been in Iraq since September and after this R&R he will return to his unit.
Joseph has been in Iraq since Sept. 08 and is coming home for his mid-deployment leave. His MOS is Scout/Sniper and he currently drives a Stryker in the 51st Cav Brig.

*This newsletter is named "The Weekly Ride" or "The Ride", for short, in memory of and to honor Sgt. Jennifer Hartman, U.S. Army. Sgt. Hartman was killed in Iraq by America's enemies. She died in defense of our freedom at the age of 20. This quote from Jennifer was read at her graveside:
"It's not about what happened in the past. It's not about what might happen in the future. It's about the ride, for Christ's sake."
