Michael John Alfonse, 40, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Reading Hospital. If you followed the news, this young man was the victim of a road rage incident.

Michael loved playing ice hockey. He grew up playing for many different teams including the Valley Forge Colonials and Spring-Ford High School. Michael enjoyed antiquing and collecting license plates. He was a member of the ALPCA (Automobile License Plate Collectors Association). Michael was a big sports fan. In addition to hockey, he also loved baseball. He enjoyed teaching his son, Dominic, how to play and throw a baseball. Woodworking was another hobby he showed great skill with. He put 100% in everything he did throughout his life. Michael would go on excursions with his metal detector and find license plates and all kinds of different hidden antiques.

He proudly served in the United States Army for 10 years. He made extraordinary sacrifices completing 2 tours in Iraq. He then went on to serve in Africa during the Ebola Crisis. Michael achieved the Soldier of the Year Award and was promoted to Staff Sgt.

Surviving along with his parents, John Alfonse and Christine Viola, is his son Dominic R. Alfonse; sister Kara Alfonse; aunts Cindy Carroll, Jennifer Alfonse, and Franny Bieganski; great aunt Rose Ann Forlini; nephew Nicholas D’Annunzio; cousins Shannon Kolias, Jessica Braskey; Tiffani Jeffries; and Steve Bieganski; and his beloved dog Gunner. He is predeceased by his grandparents Pete & Doris Stefanek and Francis & Sylvia Alfonse.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 9:00-11:30AM at the funeral home followed by a memorial service at 11:30AM at Catagnus Funeral Home (329 N. Lewis Rd., Royersford, PA 19468) with Fr. William Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Conshohocken.

Rally: Catagnus Funeral Home 8:45 or when able
329 N. Lewis Road, Royersford

I would guess rally at Cemetery should be 12:30; unknown how long service will be.
Butler Pike and North Lane, Conshohocken

As one lady said, "heartbreaking"! A young teen now without a father, parents without a son, sister without a brother, other relatives with a hole in their hearts. There was a lot of support for this family; Michael's son also had some friends who were there to share in his grief.

There was the knight in shining armor who stood at the door with his flag, escorted to the cemetery (including blocking so the car that got stuck in the procession could clear the last intersection and into the cemetery) then rode the 20 miles to work.

Most importantly, the family greatly appreciates us standing for Michael.

Michael liked the Beatles. Family played "Let it be" and "Imagine" - how apropos is the line about living in peace.
