DoD Identifies Army Casualties

April 28, 2017

The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. They died April 27 in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, as a result of small arms fire while engaged in dismounted operations. Both soldiers were assigned to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia. The incident is under investigation.

Killed were:

Sgt. Joshua P. Rodgers, 22, of Bloomington, Illinois.

Sgt. Cameron H. Thomas, 23, of Kettering, Ohio.

Please know that Cameron's service and sacrifice will not be forgotten by this great and grateful country.

My family and I wish to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Cameron H. Thomas. You are now and will forever be in our thoughts and prayers. The world is a smaller place today without him.

We hope that somehow you will find peace.

Cameron, stand down, you have done your duty in this life, carry on to the next.
