DoD Identifies Army Casualty

March 20, 2017

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Sgt. 1st Class Robert R. Boniface, 34, of San Luis Obispo, California, died March 19, in Logar Province, Afghanistan, from a non-combat related incident. The incident is under investigation.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

My family and I wish to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of SFC Robert R. Boniface. You are now and will forever be in our thoughts and prayers. The world is a smaller place today without him.

We hope that somehow you will find peace.

Robert, stand down, you have done your duty in this life, carry on to the next.
