The family and loved ones of Cpl Roy William Smith, Jr., have honored the Warriors Watch Riders (Patriot Guard Riders are welcome to participate as well) with a request for a Final Salute and an escort to our hero’s final resting place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery (MVC) where we will stand a flag line while military honors are rendered. According to the DD214 for this period, Cpl Smith served 3 Years. During this time he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Camp Stars, and Meritorious Unit Commendation. Cpl Smith was born in Rockville, Maryland on July 29, 1931 and passed away at his home in Ozark, MO on Feb. 16, 2021. He spent his childhood with grandparents in Fairfax, Virginia where he attended the Church of Christ high school and junior college. Roy served in the U.S. Army Map Service during the Korean War and while stationed at Fort Leonard Wood he met his wife, Betty JoAnn (Pamperien) Smith. They married on December 3, 1952 and had three children. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister. Roy spent most of his military and civilian years in construction building everything from bridges to missile silos, homes and rocking chairs. For 20 years he and his wife managed the Great Best Western Inn in Branson, Missouri. His joys in life were as Pop to four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gardening, Sunday drives, gospel music and Johnny Paycheck, studying maps and atlases and watching NASCAR. Roy is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children, Rick Smith and family, Rhonda Curry, and Joe Smith; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.. WEATHER FORECAST: High of 67°, Low of 37° and 10% chance of precipitation. Cages are always welcome. At the conclusion of this mission, we will plan on a group ride to the second mission at Greenlawn East.
