The family of US Army 1st Lt. Donald Demoss Rayburn has honored the Warriors’ Watch
Riders with a request for a final salute and escort from the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home to his final resting place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery and stand a flag line where full military honors will be rendered.
Hero Rayburn graduated from North High School in Des Moines and later Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture. He entered the United States Army in October 1963 and served proudly and honorably until his discharge in September 1961. He achieved the rank of 1st Lt. and excelled in the Army’s service rifle and pistol teams. He was then commissioned as a reserve officer and served until June 1963. His papers did not list his awards and citations.
He married Pamela Jones in 1969, and the couple were blessed with three children: Brian, Mark, and Denise. During his post military career, he was self-employed as a contractor building custom homes. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, boating, wood carving, and painting. He was a member of Studio 55 Arts Guild and Ozark Whittlers and Wood Carvers.
