Warriors Watch has been asked to provide a flag line for Air Force Major Norman Barker Newbon. Norman entered into service (Army Air Corps) sometime around 1942 and went directly into flight school as a Navigator. Served as a navigator in WW2 on a B29 flight crew in the South Pacific theatre. One of the special missions he flew was from the island of Papua New Guinea to Balikpapan (on the Island of Borneo) where they succeeded in destroying a major oil installation which was feeding Japan during the conflict. This flight required them to fly more than 400 miles further than the range of the B29 and the special planning was lead with the assistance of Charles Lindbergh.

Flew during Korean War while stationed in Germany flying RC97s and B25s as part of an intelligence group called Berlin for Lunch. They would fly from Frankfurt up to Berlin through the demilitarized air space known as the Berlin Corridor and take pictures of East Germany and other installations of interest.

He came back to the US and transferred into a 2 position crew of a B57 where he was the Navigator/G.I.B. (Guy in the Back). He served TDY (temporary duty yonder/assignment) with the B57 in Tripoli for several months providing air support during to the volatile period in the region.

He then joined a B52 flight crew where he spent the last 8+ years of his flying career as a Navigator and EWO (Electronic Warfare Officer). In the B52 he was part of Operation Chrome Dome which was a USAF Cold-War era mission, from 1960 to 1968, in which B52 Stratofortress strategic bomber aircraft was armed with thermonuclear weapons. They remained on continuous airborne alert, flying routes to points on the Soviet Union border.

Interment will be Tuesday 9/24/19 @ 11:00 am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA. 18940
