There is something about the excitement that school kids bring to a welcome home for a homecoming hero and never was it more apparent than at the welcome home for PFC Matthew Peterman on Tuesday.

We staged for Matthew at a local business and waited with the Marengo PD the Marengo and Union FD and a number of WWR riders.

Some of the hardier on bikes. Like our beloved Irish and Ottoman.

John Peterman Matthew’s father came down to the staging area to wait for his soon to be surprised son  to arrive.

A young lance corporal recon Marine named Owen recently back from Africa donned his uniform to wait for Matthew along with the rest of us.

Matthew’s brother a veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq also joined us as well as his girlfriend and Iraq veteran herself.

Matthew showed up with Mom a little later than scheduled but the surprise on his face was event to all.

Marengo took him in to the cab of the lead fire truck and we ran the escort through the heart of town causing many to run to the side walk and cheer.

We headed over to Zion Lutheran School where the entire school met us in the parking lot for a real home town welcome.

Thanks to the mayor and to Pastor Ayers, himself a recently returning Iraq veteran himself who we welcomed home a few months back, for some great words to Matthew and the crowd.

It was truly a patriotic event for the students of Zion Lutheran School the city of Marengo and most importantly the Peterman family.

God bless them as well as all our troops

Once again thanks to everyone who helped make this event memorable..

PS.And thanks to Kathleen for taking and posting the great pictures of this welcome home. See post & Shuttefly for photos
