Ride report posted for Wheelmaster

The day started out brisk and with a little uncertainty. My first ride as
an RC and I couldn’t seem to get all the pertinent facts for this event,
After a few calls to the army,a few more to the leo’s the FD as well as
the USO I decided to head down knowing for sure only that my neighbor Jim
and I would be there on bikes and cameranut and dobbs in cages. my thought
was this will be great, four people can have a positive effect. Then I saw
Irish and a couple of his Brothers at the side of the road in a gas
station and things started looking up. We pulled into the armory were we
were greeted by cameranut and dobbs shortly after.I didn’t forget you
Otto.it was decided to chance it and go to the most likely route the
busses were taking and we didn’t have to wait long. Officer Todd who had
found his way to the same spot was ready to take the lead and he did
pulling out and allowing us to form up with our 2 busses of heroes behind
and dobbs in his hippie van pulling up the rear.It was a short but perfect
ride to the Armory with FD pulling in directly in front of us as we
entered the grounds. By the time some of us got our kick stands down the
busses were half empty.I Guess they wanted to hug their families in a
hurry. So the flag line was a little disorganized and I didn’t have a
chance to thank every one,so thanks to the Arlington Heights Police and
fire, the USO all the members who showed up on a brisk morning. But Most of
all THANK YOU TO THE 327th MP battalion, their families and all those who
give them support while they are off defending the freedoms we enjoy every
day stateside. After watching these men and women get off those busses and
into the arms of their loved ones I knew we would all be a little warmer
on the way home. Seeing all that pride and love tends to warm even old
bones like mine. In closing I would just say that the WWR was well
represented that day,not just the numbers but by the pride each and every
one of us was able to witness and participate in.As a side note I met a
gentleman as I was ready to leave who was about 84 I think. I gave him a
business card and expect a call from him. He has ridden on many continents
and showed some real interest in riding with us. Well it was short and
sweet but in true WWR fashion we put some smiles on the faces of these
fine people who fight for us and that makes it worth it if there’s 10 or
100 of us WELCOME HOME SOLDIERS, enjoy your well deserved rest and God
Bless America!!!!!!
